Adamello Vertical Kilometer rises to the international status

The premier event of the Adamello Series (Sunday, September 14, 2025), has received a three-year licence from the International Skyrunning Federation, and will be part of the VK Open Championships: “An immense recognition”

2024 will be a year to remember for Adamello Ultra Trail. Besides a special edition with record digits (900 athletes from 32 countries) to celebrate its tenth anniversary, the growth of the Italian trail and ultra-running event also extended to its side formats, the Adamello Series. Among those stands out the Adamello Vertical Kilometer, now stepping up to the international level after receiving a 3-year licencefrom the International Skyrunning Federation until 2027.

The new category will bring another change, as now two weeks – compared to the previous one – will split the Adamello Series (Adamello Vertical Kilometer, Adamello Vertical Slow, Adamello Vertical Junior And Adamello Trail Junior), now scheduled for Sunday, September 14, 2025, and the Adamello Ultra Trail, to take place on September 26-28, 2025, as recently announced.

Adamello Vertical Kilometer consists of 3.7 km and 1,000 m of elevation gain, and it’s entirely held in Alta Valle Camonica, in the worldwide famous outdoor destination of the Pontedilegno-Tonale area. For its 2025 edition, Adamello Vertical Kilometer will also be part of the VK Open Championships. The international VK Open series, now in its fifth year, includes 8 races in 6 countries, starting from Brazil in January and ending in October in Bulgaria, passing through Spain, Andorra, Portugal, and Italy.

In 2024, Adamello Vertical Kilometer was won by Davide Magnini in the Men’s category and by Benedetta Broggi in the Women’s, with both of them claiming the course record. Among the participants was a solid number of athletes from the Italian Skyrunning Federation, whose training camps in May also took place in the area.

Current women’s champion of the VK Open Championships is Corinna Ghirardi, local athlete of the Italian national team and first ever winner of Adamello Vertical Kilometer in 2023. King of the Men’s series was Frenchman Louis Dumas.

Our Vertical Kilometer event has been only held twice, and yet it’s getting praise from top athletes, from the Italian federation and also from the International Skyrunning Federation. This recognition makes us immensely proud and it pushes us to work even harder for what’s coming next”, said the organizers.
