The Italian National Skyrunning Team tames the first Adamello Vertical Kilometer

The Adamello Ultra Trail 2023 program officially opened on Sunday, September 17th, with the Adamello Series, that include the side events associated with the ultra-running race in the Pontedilegno-Tonale area. The Adamello Ultra Trail 2023 program officially opened on Sunday, September 17th, with the Adamello Series, that include the side events associated with the ultra-running race in the Pontedilegno-Tonale area. In Vione (Brescia), approximately 200 athletes and enthusiasts of all ages participated in the day’s program, that featured the three Adamello Vertical Kilometer formats in the morning, followed by the Adamello Trail Junior in the afternoon.

The Adamello Vertical Kilometer, making its debut, featured three versions: competitive, slow, and junior. The elite and senior categories covered a route of 3.9 km with a 1000 m altitude difference, while the junior category had a 3 km route with a 700 m altitude difference.

Among the participants in the competitive races were athletes from the FISKY, the Italian national Skyrunning team, led by head coach Roberto Mattioli. The Italian national team runners put on an impressive performance, securing all the titles.

In the men’s category, Italian Champion and Vice-World Champion Marcello Ugazio claimed victory in the inaugural Adamello Vertical Kilometer with a time of 37:48, ahead of another top athlete, Davide Magnini (39:09), and the young Peter Cesare Bettoli (40:33).

In the women’s race, European Vice-Champion Corinna Ghirardi (47:52) triumphed on her home trails, besting her competitors Valentina Garattini (50:56) and Monica Vagni (51:38). In the Vertical Junior category (15-18 years), Davide Gadin emerged victorious with a time of 31:05, followed by Paolo Gianola (31:28) and Riccardo Chiolerio (33:23).

In the afternoon, starting from Vione, the traditional Adamello Trail Junior event took place, introducing even the youngest participants to the discipline of mountain running.

We aimed to take a significant step forward for our event by adding a completely new challenge in three different formats The positive feedback from the athletes and the participation of the FISKY national team provide us with excellent validation as we eagerly anticipate the upcoming weekend,” said Paolo Gregorini, the head of ASD Adamello Ultra Trail, the OC.

Indeed, on Thursday, September 21st, preparations will commence for the main event of the Adamello Ultra Trail, with the race office opening and bib collection at the Centro Eventi in Vezza d’Oglio (Brescia). On Friday morning at 7:00 am, the 100 km Adamello Trail will begin, followed by the 170 km Ultra Trail at 9:00 am, while the 35 km Short Trail will kick off on Saturday at 2:00 pm from Monno (Brescia).
