The Italian National Skyrunning Team returns to Adamello Ultra Trail’s paths

From May 31st to June 2nd, eighteen athletes will take in a special training camp on the Pontedilegno-Tonale trails to set up the coming season. For the junior team, this will also be a key test before the Youth Skyrunning World Championships in Bar (Montenegro) in June. TD Mattioli: “Here we find great trails and organization”

Following last year’s successful participation in the Adamello Vertical Kilometer debut, the bond between the Italian Skyrunning Federation (FISKY) and Adamello Ultra Trail gets even more solid. The Azzurri will be back on the trails of the Pontedilegno-Tonale area from May 31st to June 2nd to perform specific tests and trainings.

The Technical Director Roberto Mattioli selected 18 athletes, ranging from the Junior to the Senior category. The youngsters will play their cards to be selected for the Youth Skyrunning World Championships in Bar (Montenegro), scheduled for June 28-30, while the Senior team’s runners will assess their current condition ahead of a crucial period of the season.

Key athletes of the Youth team are Davide Gadin and Paolo Gianola, respectively gold and silver medal at Adamello Vertical Junior in 2023, while the Seniors will be represented by local runner and European vice champion Corinna Ghirardi, as well as talented Matteo AnselmiLuca Compagnoni, and Matteo Lora, the latter winner of the VK OPEN Championship 2023.

“Those trails are ideal for us, as they provide technical yet smooth segments, and a solid altitude to train at. Here we will prepare our next races, with a special focus on the Youth Team for the World Championships in Montenegro. Our goal is to confirm last year’s podium, where we got second behind Spain”, argued TD Roberto Mattioli.

As a testament of this special relationship, the National team will be then back again in Alta Valle Camonica at the end of the summer season to take part in the second edition of Adamello Vertical Kilometer, scheduled for Sunday 15th September. In 2023, the Azzurri athletes won every category (Senior Men, Senior Women and Junior) and the goal is to repeat the feat again in 2024.

“We definitely enjoy being here, as we often schedule events in the area. Adamello Vertical Kilometer showed from the very beginning to be a top event, given the quality of the trails, the safety and organizational level. From this year, the event will be one of the four stages featuring the CRAZY Vertical Italy Cup 2024, and we hope to bring over here the Italian championships in the foreseeable future”, ended Mattioli.

The full program of the Adamello Ultra Trail (20-22 September) opens in Vione (Brescia, Italy) a week earlier, on Sunday 15th September, with the Adamello Vertical Kilometer (Competitive, Slow and Junior), followed in the afternoon by the Adamello Trail Junior.

The following weekend it will be time for the main event, with start and finish from the headquarters in Vezza d’Oglio (Brescia): the 100 km will kick-off on Friday 20th September at 7:00 a.m., followed by the new 60 km at 8:00 a.m., and by the 170 km queen distance at 9:00 a.m. In the afternoon of Saturday 21st September, the 35 km will also start from the nearby village of Monno with finish again in Vezza d’Oglio.
