Despite unstable weather forcing changes to avoid the highest peaks, over 1,000 athletes – a new event record – are ready for the alpine adventure across Alta Val Camonica and Alta Val di Sole. Updated distances and elevation profiles for the 60K, 100K and 170K: “Safety always comes first.”
Everything is set for the eleventh edition of Adamello Ultra Trail. On Thursday, September 25th, the race office opened in Vezza d’Oglio (Brescia), followed by the evening technical briefing at the Centro Eventi headquarters.
Despite unsettled forecasts, the organizers of Adamello Ultra Trail A.S.D. confirmed the full event program, with the longer races starting tomorrow, Friday, September 26th, and the 35K scheduled for Saturday afternoon from Monno. For safety reasons, following recent and expected precipitation at altitude, adjustments have been introduced to the 60K, 100K and 170K courses. They now measure 58K (3,800 m elevation gain instead of 4,000), 85K (5,000 m D+ instead of 6,050) and 154K (9,500 m D+ instead of 11,500).
“Our top priority was to ensure the race could take place safely,” said the organizers. “We managed to do so while keeping the courses close to their original lengths and preserving our hallmark passages along the Great War trails. The new routes, which simply avoid sections above 2,500 m, have already been fully marked – an extra effort, but essential to guarantee a safe and enjoyable weekend. Once again, our thanks go to sponsors, institutions, volunteers and athletes: welcome to our mountains!”
This year’s Adamello Ultra Trail welcomes over 1,000 athletes from 34 countries – both record figures. After Italy, the most represented nations are Germany (33 athletes), Great Britain and Czech Republic (14 each). Competitors are also arriving from Scandinavia, Africa and the Americas, from the United States down to Argentina. Female participation has reached new heights too, with more than 200 women lining up at the start.
The women’s field includes defending champions of the 100K and 60K, Germany’s Beliana Hilbert and Italy’s Valentina Moderana, both chasing back-to-back wins. Among their strongest rivals in the 100K are Piedmont twins Enrica and Luisa Dematteis and former winner Francesca Crippa. In the men’s race, contenders include France’s Pierre Augrit and Italy’s Alessandro Affolati – runner-up last year behind the unstoppable Epiney.
On the shorter course, Raffaella Rossi – already victorious in 2021 and 2022 – will aim for a historic third crown, which would make her the first woman, and only the second athlete after Switzerland’s Walter Manser, to achieve a triple #AUT triumph. The flagship 170K is expected to be wide open, with weather conditions likely to play a decisive role.
A GLOBAL SHOWCASE FOR THE ENTIRE VALLEY
The Adamello Ultra Trail winds through seven municipalities in Brescia province (Edolo, Incudine, Monno, Ponte di Legno, Temù, Vezza d’Oglio, Vione) and one in Trento province (Vermiglio), within the spectacular Adamello and Stelvio Nature Parks. The course ranges from 650 m above sea level at Edolo to 2,480 m at Rifugio Bozzi, now the highest point following the modifications.
The event is held under the patronage of Regione Lombardia, supported by the Unione dei Comuni dell’Alta Valle Camonica and Comunità Montana di Valle Camonica. Vital contributions also come from local associations – from Fire Brigade to the Pezzo-Ponte di Legno section of C.A.I., from Red Cross to Alpine Rescue and Protezione Civile.
Mountain huts and bivouacs along the route provide continuous assistance throughout the weekend, while also serving as gateways for exploring the area. The Pontedilegno-Tonale region is a renowned year-round destination, offering trekking, cycling and bike touring, climbing, rafting, and over 40 ski slopes attracting enthusiasts from all over the world during winter.
Among commercial partners, MICO Sport returns as main sponsor for the eighth consecutive year. Alongside the Brescia-based technical apparel company, long-standing partners include Edison, Ferrino, Salice and DF Sport Specialist. The 2025 newcomer is LOWA, the German outdoor footwear brand with more than a century of expertise, entering the trail running market through an established international event like Adamello Ultra Trail.
