Adamello Ultra Trail kicks off on a high note: Affolati and Hilbert win the 100 km, Arrigoni and Gelpi the 60 km

Today, September 26th, the Italian trail running event took off in the Pontedilegno-Tonale area, with home athletes claiming every title. Alessandro Affolati won the 100 km, while Luca Arrigoni and Paola Gelpi triumphed in the 60 km

The opening day of the 2025 Adamello Ultra Trail was not short of emotions. On Thursday, 26 September, the international trail running event in the Pontedilegno–Tonale area kicked off from Vezza d’Oglio with the starts of the 60 km, 100 km and 170 km races — all slightly shortened due to adverse weather conditions (58 km, 85 km and 154 km respectively).

On the 85 km course with 5,000 metres of elevation gain, Alessandro Affolati secured victory in 9 hours, 18 minute and 1 second, improving on his second place from last year, while fellow Italian Simone Vigolo followed in 9:29:41. Ivan Favretto completed the podium in 9:45:47, marking his best result at Adamello Ultra Trail after finishing fifth in 2024.

The leading trio fought shoulder to shoulder throughout the race, exchanging the lead several times. Favretto briefly pulled ahead midway, but Affolati and Vigolo clawed their way back in the second half to capture the top two steps of the podium.

In the women’s field, Germany’s Beliana Hilbert won for the second time in a row after a tough fight the Dematteis twins. After a long head to head up to about km 55, the reigning champion raised the pace and never looked back, clocking a notable 10:54:47. Behind her, Italy’s Luisa and Enrica Dematteis, finished together in 11:14:47.

Italian colours shone again in the 60 km race (shortened to 58 km with 3,800 m of elevation gain). Luca Arrigoni, fresh off his recent victory at the TOR100, delivered an impressive performance, stopping the clock at 6:19:07 — over an hour faster than last year’s winning time. Iacopo Barbieri took silver in 6:41:25, while Robert Oberhollenzer from South Tyrol claimed bronze in 6:46:30.

Among the women, Paola Gelpi continued her stellar 2025 season with a strong win in 7:39:50, adding to her victories at the Vesuvio Ultra Marathon (50 km) and Dolomiti Beer Trail (57 km). Silvia Scipioni was second in 8:24:18 and defending champion Valentina Moderana placed third in 8:49:01.

The spotlight now turns to the 170 km race, with Andrea Prometti (Italy) and Kristina Kmetova (Slovakia) currently leading the men’s and women’s fields. On Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., the event will also feature the 35 km race, starting from Monno and finishing in Vezza d’Oglio.
