TD Mattioli: “Here we find great trails and organization”

Following last year’s successful participation in the Adamello Vertical Kilometer debut, the bond between the Italian Skyrunning Federation (FISKY) and Adamello Ultra Trail gets even more solid. The Azzurri will be back on the trails of the Pontedilegno-Tonale area from May 31st to June 2nd to perform specific tests and trainings.

The Technical Director Roberto Mattioli selected 18 athletes, ranging from the Junior to the Senior category. The youngsters will play their cards to be selected for the Youth Skyrunning World Championships in Bar (Montenegro), scheduled for June 28-30, while the Senior team’s runners will assess their current condition ahead of a crucial period of the season.

Key athletes of the Youth team are Davide Gadin and Paolo Gianola, respectively gold and silver medal at Adamello Vertical Junior in 2023, while the Seniors will be represented by local runner and European vice champion Corinna Ghirardi, as well as talented Matteo Anselmi, Luca Compagnoni, and Matteo Lora, the latter winner of the VK OPEN Championship 2023.

“Those trails are ideal for us, as they provide technical yet smooth segments, and a solid altitude to train at. Here we will prepare our next races, with a special focus on the Youth Team for the World Championships in Montenegro. Our goal is to confirm last year’s podium, where we got second behind Spain”, argued TD Roberto Mattioli.

As a testament of this special relationship, the National team will be then back again in Alta Valle Camonica at the end of the summer season to take part in the second edition of Adamello Vertical Kilometer, scheduled for Sunday 15th September. Adamello Vertical Kilometer showed from the very beginning to be a top event, given the quality of the trails, the safety and organizational level.
