Adamello Ultra Trail to host 2026 Italian Vertical Kilometer Championships

The ISF-certified skyrunning race set in the Pontedilegno-Tonale area marks a new milestone in 2026, hosting the Italian National Vertical Kilometer Championships: entries open from June 15. Registrations are also open for the main event (25–27 September) across four distances up to 170 km: early bird closes on June 30

Adamello Ultra Trail continues to expand on all fronts: not only its four headline distances, but also the Adamello Series companion races – Adamello Vertical Kilometer, Adamello Vertical Junior and Adamello Trail Junior – will open the event week in the Pontedilegno-Tonale area on September 13. For its fourth edition, Adamello Vertical Kilometer will award the Italian National Championships (Open and Age-Group titles), ahead of the Adamello Ultra Trail main event week from 25 to 27 September.

First held in 2023, the Adamello Vertical Kilometre – the flagship race of the Adamello Series – will open registration on June 15. #AVK covers 3.7 km and 1,000 m of elevation gain, from the village of Vione (Brescia, Northern Italy) to the Tor dei Pagà summit at 2,250 m above sea level. The event has rapidly established itself on the international skyrunning circuit: in 2025, it received a three-year certification from the International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) and joined the VK Open Championships circuit. In addition, the trails of the Pontedilegno-Tonale area regularly host the Italian Skyrunning Federation (FISKY) and its National Team training camps, at both Elite and Junior level.

“Being selected to host the Italian National Championships fills us with pride,” said Luigi Sterli of Adamello Ultra Trail ASD. “We can’t wait to welcome Italy’s best skyrunners onto our trails.”

The recognition reflects a growing relationship between the event and the Italian skyrunning national team. The Adamello Vertical Kilometer roll of honour already includes several prominent names from Italian mountain running: Marcello Ugazio, Corinna Ghirardi (a local talent), Benedetta Broggi and Martina Pozzi. The latter, one of the brightest young talents in the discipline, underlined her class at the U23 World Championships in Croatia (8–10 May 2026), taking two individual silver medals in the Vertical and Skyrunning events plus a silver in the combined, and contributing to Italy’s bronze in the nations’ standings.

MAIN EVENT REGISTRATION: EARLY BIRD CLOSES 30 JUNE

The Adamello Series set up the Adamello Ultra Trail programme. The main event, scheduled for 25–27 September in the Italian Alps, has become one of the most popular trail and ultra running events on the European calendar: the 2025 edition set a new record with over 1,000 starters from 34 countries.

Registration is open for all four distances of #AUT: the 170 km ultra trail, the 100 km trail, the 60 km half trail and the 35 km short trail.

Early bird prices are available until 30 June; from the 1st of July, full prices apply: €240 (170 km), €140 (100 km) and €100 (60 km). The 35 km short trail has a flat entry fee of €40. Further details and information are available at www.adamelloultratrail.it/en/.
