SCARPA aims high at Adamello Ultra Trail with Welsh runner Simon Roberts

The World’s leading Italian outdoor footwear brand confirms itself among the main partners of the Adamello Ultra Trail (22-24 September), and targets the 100 km distance with the Welsh ultrarunner. “AUT is one of the most beautiful races in Italy”, said Marco De Gasperi

In less than two weeks (22-24 September) the Adamello Ultra Trail will be held for the ninth time, meandering through trenches, military trails and fortresses dating back to World War I. And for the third consecutive year it will have SCARPA by its side the Italian brand based in Treviso is a worldwide excellence for high-mountain sports footwear. Once again, SCARPA is ready to support all athletes on the trails of the Pontedilegno-Tonale region.

The partnership between Adamello Ultra Trail and SCARPA has grown over the years: after the very positive debut of 2021, the bond was further consolidated the following edition, when some international ambassadors of the Italian brand were invited by the organizing committee for a two-day recon of the two longest routes. Among them, were Spaniard Antonio Martinez Perez and Portuguese André Rodrigues, as well as locals Emanuele Manzi, David Bottarelli and Damiano Pedretti. In terms of results, SCARPA took the win with Francesca Crippa in the intermediate route (former 90 km) and Alessandra Olivi in the 170 km race.

For us, this three-year period has been certainly positive, because we have grown together with the event”, said Marco De Gasperi, multiple times mountain running World Champion and now SCARPA brand manager.“We are talking about an area that is very important to us, an area where our products have been well established for many years, making us a historic brand. . Above all, when we talk about the Adamello Ultra Trail, we are talking about one of the most beautiful 100-Mile races in Italy”.

As for the routes, De Gasperi believes the longer routes represent a step forward for the popularity of the Adamello Ultra Trail outside of Italy’s borders.“I am convinced that extending the intermediate race from 90 to 100 km will help attract more and more international runners. . As for our athletes, this year we count on Simon Roberts, one of the aces of the British trail running team, who will compete in the intermediate distance, and we are confident in our strong team in the women’s race as well”.

The 35-year-old Welshman, who competed in the 2021 Mountain Running Nations Cup wearing his national team jersey, has established himself in recent years as one of the most interesting names in ultrarunning, taking several first places. Most notably, he won the 2021 Montane Dragon’s Back Race (380 km and 17,400 meters of elevation gain crossing all of Wales from North to South) and the 2022 Montane Winter Spine Race (431 km and 13,300 meters of elevation gain in the middle of winter, from England to Scotland along the Pennine Way).

Simon is a runner who has prestigious victories in his trophy case – said De Gasperi – with great athletic ability built up through very tough races Now he’s getting back in shape after a period with some injuries, and we are pleased that he specifically asked us to participate in this race, because it shows the international growth of the event”.

“We are very satisfied by the collaboration with SCARPA – commented Paolo Gregorini, head of the Adamello Ultra Trail ASD, the event’s organizing committee – and we hope to extend it in the future. SCARPA is a top Italian brand, internationally renowned for the quality of its products and for its attention to sustainability, a key factor for those who, like us, love nature and the mountains. Simon Roberts is undoubtedly a talented athlete: he will help us raise the level of an already highly competitive race”.
