Adamello Ultra Trail is on: Jimmy Pellegrini hunts for third success

The ultra-running event kicks off in the weekend with its three distances: among the top names, Pellegrini aims again at winning the longest race (170 km)

The week of Adamello Ultra Trail has finally arrived. The ultra-running event will take place from Friday, September 24th to Sunday, September 26th in the Pontedilegno-Tonale area, on the Paths of the Great War between Alta Val Camonica and Alta Val di Sole, crossing the Adamello and Stelvio Nature Parks. After the 2020 postponement due to bad weather, the two-year-long wait is coming to an end, with some of the most famous names in the ultra-running scene ready to battle it out on the three distances (170,90and 35 km).

Jimmy Pellegrini is certainly among them: the athlete from Laghetti di Egna (Bozen), is back to Adamello Ultra Trail after two consecutive titles (one of them ex aequo with Oliviero Bosatelli) in 2015 and 2016. “I was the first one to win twice this race – explained the South Tyrolean– so why not trying to be the first one to win it a third time?“. Over the years, Pellegrini has also distinguished himself by holding the world record of elevation gain in 24 hours in 2016, with a final mark of 20,320 metres.

Adamello Ultra Trail holds a place in my heart: at my first appearance in 2015, the organization was already well established and I sincerely appreciated the route and refreshments. At first, I was attracted by the distance and the period of the race, because it is difficult to find such long events at the end of the season; the second time I came for the sake of trying to repeat myself. On the other hand, in 2018 it didn’t go so well: I stopped before the final line also because of a very busy season. Here I really like the race, the landscapes and the people“.

The South Tyrolean also commented the strong growth of ultra-running events on the national and international scene. “The movement is expanding and more and more young people are approaching this sport, especially distances up to 100 km, in fact the average age of runners has recently dropped – analysed Pellegrini -. In my opinion, however, some events are becoming too technical and with segments that are too risky. In this regard, Adamello Ultra Trail represents the ideal mix: nice distances and the right extent of technicity“. The hunt for Jimmy Pellegrini’s third success is definitely on.
